Tiny planets

When we look up to the night sky we may think of ourselves as rather small and insignificant. Those stars and planets which are so many miles away though like tiny do they not? To us, they look like little dabs of light on a dark blanket stretching out to forever.

Size, truly is relative. We know that if we were to say travel to one of those tiny dots of light such as Betelgeuse we’d find ourselves looking at a giant solar leviathan. It reminds me of an old anecdote I heard as a child where I read that if you were to shoot a bullet one way around that star, it’d take around 70 odd years to go around and hit you in the back.

I’m certainly not advocating such behaviour but it always struck me of the vastness of such a star. Whilst I cannot verify the veracity of this claim (I was around 8 when I read it lol) it certainly does seem plausible. Our planets, are of course much closer but even so they are a very very long way from us.

We are very much part of this Universe, just like those planets, stars and every other thing you can imagine. We all have our place and are made up of all the same matter proliferating throughout the cosmos. There is no bigger or smaller really, we are all just reassembled patterns of atoms and that is quite a wonder.
